MySpace hires sales folk in NZ
MySpace have hired APN Digital Media to manage its local marketing and PR in New Zealand according to ComputerWorld. The (short) article also cites a NZ Herald article claiming that Bebo is the most popular social networking service in New Zealand. Apparently Bebo had 768,000 unique visitors compared with 194,000 for MySpace. Interestingly enough Facebook comes in 4th after another service...

Ambient intimacy revisited
I first mentioned ambient intimacy on this site way back in June. This idea was originally discussed by Lisa Reichelt on her blog Disambiguity (I like it so the station is in frequent orbit) where she elegantly explains her ideas behind the phrase. Recently a short article was published at the New Statesmen which argued that ambient intimacy was helping contribute to the confusion between public...

FirstMeta: Credit in SecondLife (re-post)
FirstMeta is a brand new credit card that trades in Linden dollars for use in SecondLife. Note that this is a re-post from yesterday. I did it again because the Tumblr “Link” option creates multiple links by using the caption as the main post link. This confuses the RSS feed and makes it look manky. My advice is to post everything as “Text” and embed the html for videos,...

Zuckerberg is just ... so young!
This image shows Mark Zuckerberg being interviewed by Michael Arrington at the TechCrunch 40 conference. This guy is the founder of Facebook and as everyone knows, he (and Facebook) are doing the business.

Scroogled: We know everything!
I found a link to this interesting story at Radar Online (c/o findability.org) speculating on what would happen if Google controlled the rest of your life as well.

Wonderful World Wind
World Wind looks to be a wonderful looking Google Earth-like application made by NASA. It is couched as a learning tool that provides crystal, clear satellite imagery of the earth’s terrain in “visually rich 3D”. It is open source so feel free to contribute, however, it currently requires .NET and there’s 16MB to download. [c/o NS]

Yahoo! - mashing or moshing?
According to ComputerWorld, Yahoo! mistakenly revealed plans for a new social networking service. It sounds like the Yahoo 360 service will be scrapped because it doesn’t even register on the top-10 social networking sites. Note that this post was sent from my desktop using Wintumblr (and easy it was too!).

Event: Webstock 2008
Webstock 2008 is confirmed for February 11-15 in Wellington, New Zealand. This event is a combination of interesting Web and Internet related presentations and workshops from a diverse range of forward-thinking speakers. Although registration details are not yet confirmed it looks like the place to be in February. Keep tabs through the Webstock blog. [c/o PublicAddress]

Post to your log with WinTumblr →
Here is some excellent, free, and tiny software that let’s you post items to your Tumblr tumblelog (if you don’t have one, maybe you should?) from your desktop. It is quick, easy to use and runs quietly from your system tray. Note that this application currently only works on Windows machines running the .NET 2 framework.

WatchWatch
Although this video is not strictly the business of this tumblelog, it is at least connected with space. It features a parody of The Simpsons introduction in a homage (or perhaps Homarge) to Star Wars by the “Dude” animator Rich Cando (c/o College Humour).

The Station is burning up the feeds
The Social Space Station has joined the RSS feed revolution by connecting with Feedburner. I would like to see just how many people are crazy enough to be interested in the happenings at the station so it would be really good if the existing subscribers re-subscribe by clicking the new orange RSS feed button next to the Website title (which as gone all Web 2.0 too by the way). And thanks for...

Online social space ... eh?
Curious George: So what is this "online social space" anyway?
Andrew: Great question! I didn't say anything about this did I ...
Curious George: No, so come on man
Andrew: Okay, I guess my definition of online social space is something like - the rapidly, evolving universe of interconnected humans, technologies, services, experiences and interactions across the Internet.
Curious George: Whoa, that's like so vague!
Andrew: Fair point, I'll think on.

Online shrines for 'death networking' (c/o... →
An interesting concept which I thought had limited appeal (initially) - you know what with dead people not being that active online. But it turns out that a new collection of social networking services are appearing that allow people to share their memories (good and bad) about someone and perhaps deal with their grief. It’s also an opportunity for others who never knew the deceased to add...

Random thought #1
What if Josh Schwartz (The O.C.), David E. Kelley (Boston Legal) and Aaron Sorkin (Studio 60 on Sunset Strip) all worked together on a new show?

The Unsolicited Electronic Messages Act 2007
On September 5th 2007 the The Unsolicited Electronic Messages Act will take effect in New Zealand. This act is designed to curb the amount of spam (defined as “unsolicited commercial electronic messages”) that inflicts New Zealand citizens’ email boxes everyday. As a consequence, legitimate email subscription services based in New Zealand (defined as those responsible for...
