Face the groupies
One of the reasons people have flocked to social networking sites is the opportunity to join groups of like-minded individuals. It doesn’t matter which service you use, the ability to create or join groups will be present. Why is this?
Well, here is an unfounded opinion:- Groups provide an overarching identity in addition to the personal that locates the individual in a group of like-minded people. The consequence - a sense of belonging and participation that takes the social networking experience to a new level of community; which some now consider is missing from real communities. Most groups are open to anyone and many are pretty silly but regardless, there is a group out there just for you.If not, create one!
Facebook probably provides the best group related features and it seems that groups are taken a little more seriously here than say, Bebo (judging by the number of interesting and legitimate groups on Facebook). But hey, what exactly are Facebook officers?
