Analytics reporting for home

If you care about the comings and goings at your Website then you probably use Google analytics. This is a useful service for keeping track of visitors to your sites and for details such as how they got there, what they did once there, how they found about your site, and many, many more metrics. It really is a remarkable amount of information that is captured by Google, at least the stuff we know about. Fortunately the data is pretty nicely visualised using Google maps (visitor locations), line charts (hits) and so on; all nicely Ajaxed naturally. Here’s a cool desktop application for tracking the stats of all your sites. It’s the Google Reporting suite by Nico and runs on the Adobe Air platform (an environment that runs interactive Web applications on desktops). It presents the analytics data in a similar style to Google but slicker and more configurable (particularly for multiple accounts).

See the graphic below for a glimpse of the elegant presentation:

If you’re interested, download the current version of Adobe Air from Adobe labs (it’s still in beta) first. Once installed, grab the Analytics Reporting suite (note that both are currently free). Install this, specify your Google account details and then be prepared to wait a little while it fetches the data. I highly recommend it but note that the performance is little sluggish compared to using Google Analytics online. So if you’re happy with the Google experience, perhaps stick with that.
