Review: Jyte.com
Jyte.com is a social networking site based around the idea of claims. It uses mob-rule to give credence to these claims by allowing members to vote either way and argue their cases. This adds a nice adversarial element to encourage activity but I’m not sure how you make money on it. It could well be one those sites speculating on the number of eyeballs attracting to it.
The interface is nicely Ajaxed and integrated with the OpenID authentication service (which I intend to discuss later on). I think identity management is a really good idea and will watch the progress of OpenID and others. In this instance an advantage of using OpenID here is that the email verification is now redundant because you are already verified.
Many claims made by people are nonsense, some are on the money while others are just plain controversial (naturally). There seems to be a lot of action around Web 2.0 related topics at the moment, particularly whether or not the term was really ever well defined. If you care about my opinion, I got bored reading the original O’Reilly definition and simply enjoy the new Web interactions regardless of how they are classified. It’s an exciting time!
I enjoy the site and have posted by own collection of claims (plus a couple in a group I started called Online social spaces). So check them out, who knows maybe you will bite. But if you do, expect the novelty to where off Jyte fairly quickly. This seems like one of the problems that is likely to plague this particular service. And I can’t really see what else they can offer with the current format but you just never know in these changing times.
