The Social Space Station

The importance of the unremarkable

Next Friday I’ll be making a rare physical appearance in the meat space to talk about one of my favourite things: Twitter. The occasion is the weekly seminar series run by Information and Computer Sciences at the University of Otago. My plan is to discuss Twitter (well obviously) and then attempt to explain why I think its interesting and important to the everyday.

Look here to read the abstract and if you’re interested, see where and when I’ll be wittering on about the trivial.

While I’m on about these kinds of things, here are a few new automatic Twitter accounts I’ve recently added to the Social Space Station omni-media module. The biggest change is to separate dis-aggregate posts from this tumblelog from those on my personal Twitter account.

Please follow any that may interest.

  • StationDispatch (documents posts made to the Social Space Station)
  • StationTunes (displays songs played on the Social Space Station thanks to TuneTweeter)
  • StationTalk (shows recent conversations inspired by posts made to the Social Space Station)
  • GlutenFreeNews (an aggregation of news about gluten freeness from around the globe)
  • DunedinNews (an aggregation of news, events, music and other things relating to Dunedin, New Zealand)

All feeds are kindly facilitated by a free service (although donations are encouraged) called TwitterFeed.

I’m interested in seeing whether or not Twitter is a good channel for aggregating and distributing information sourced from multiple places online.

If you like, please let me know.
